I use the rescue operation (PinkTie CDs) to dupe hard 
drives for a linux-based product, the last step is to boot 
rescue to run lilo.  I've done it a hundred times.

Try the rescue option on the disk and see if it works for you. It
does not for me. Otherwise I assume it is the same but I don't know.
