The rebuilding of the array is all taken care of at the hardware level. just swap on a good drive, and enter the bios of the card, and choose "rebuild array". It says that if youre using storage enclosure, that it will rebuild while online, as soon as it sees a new drive where the failed one was. If your bold enough, even if your not using an eclosure, I have swapped in 68pin drives while online many times, and have rebuilt arrays that way. http://graphics.adaptec.com/pdfs/user_guides/storagemgt_sw_gd_512862vaa.pdf ive never used the software that monitors it, but im sure it exists. Yep, upon checking, looks like they have a *nix version of their storage manager, give it a look and see what it does! http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/drivers_by_product.html?sess=no&lan guage=English+US&cat=/Product/ASR-2100S jonathan -----Original Message----- From: shrike-list-admin@xxxxxxxxxx [mailto:shrike-list-admin@xxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of John Colville Sent: Sunday, December 14, 2003 3:09 PM To: shrike-list@xxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: Adaptec 2100S SCSI RAID controller. Thanks Jonathan, I did as you suggested and indeed it all works very well. RH9 loads the I2O driver during installation and the whole installation proceeds without requiring any special attention. I have a few more questions though. What happens when a disk in the array fails ? I assume the sonalert on the card whistles its head off to alert you of the failure but are there any Linux (GUI ?) utilities (are they needed ?) to assist in resynching the array once a new disk is inserted ? Thanks again, John DLP Linux Admin wrote: > I have one.
