Well if you can send me the output of this commands may be we can help you:

as root execute,

'hdparm -I /dev/hda'

'hdparm -tT /dev/hda' ( at least 2 or 3 times )

'more /proc/meminfo'

'more /proc/cpuinfo'

'lsmod'

Do you know if you are using prelink?
