This is not very good advice. To process source packages first use
rpmbuild to get the binary rpm and then you can install the binary rpm
as usual. Look at man rpmbuild
Although "Maximum RPM" is helpfull it is written for a rpm system that
is in many ways obsolete, so be careful.
