New HTTP exploit? "SEARCH \x90\x90\x90\x90\x90\..."

I have newly noticed these requests in  my apache access logs.
"SEARCH  /\x90\x02\xb1\x02\xb1\x02\xb1\x02\xb1\x02\xb1\x0..."

Some of these requests are very long!

Apache returns a 414, URI too long, but the log files are growing in size quickly.

I did a quick google but all it turned up was old stuff and I think this is something new.

Anyone else, any info?
