I have Both GNOME and KDE installed. I use Gnome Most of the time as my
default desktop.  K3b does not Need root access (unlike X-CD-Roast). K3B
under Gnome, appears in my system-settings menu. 

If you installed from rpm, then I suggest you perform a 

rpm -qil k3bxxxx.rpm and you will get the list of files...

eg: /usr/share/applications/k3b.desktop

do a cat /usr/share/applications/k3b.desktop

and read what it says. It will usually tell you where it's installed.
