Thanks for your quick response. I have tried changing the Grub.Conf file as per your instructions. copied the original entry 3 lines, added a title line and appended init=3 tried in two places, original line"kernal /boot/vmlinux-2.4.8.20 ro root=LABEL=/hd0-ide-scsi "here"" and "kernal /boot/vmlinux-2.4.8.20 ro root=LABEL=/"here" neither of these options worked. Still booted straight into a GUI. Must have got something wrong! Can you sus it.
