I am currently using Outlook to get my email from the LInux Box via POP3 protocol. I understand this isn't secure. Can anyone here help me out with some links or pointers on how to configure secure POP3 mail? perhaps through a SSH tunnel or something?? Maybe a Secure POP3 port? (If there is one)
As long as you use Outlook, I suppose you need not worry about security of the pop protocol :-)
Mail servers exchange the mail unencrypted. So you will not gain a lot of security benefit from encryption of the mail while sending it from the server to your machine (ssh tunnel). Biggest issue is the password (pop account may be the same as your user account) which is sent unencrypted, too. Their is an extension, apop, to encrypt the password.
