As What is in my Mind... Promise SATA Raid controller don't seem to work with RHL or any Linux version due to that they didn't provided any Driver to the Kernel.
So I don't think this will work on RHL9 ...
If you have about $600, allow me to recommend a 3Ware 12-drive card with hardware RAID. Support built-in to the kernel for a long time, and I have one which works flawlessly. I believe you want the 8500-12, but check.
