GNOME1's gdm used to let you do something like <Ctrl-F> with the greeter login to finger users to see if they had mail waiting; GNOME2 doesn't seem to and I use the 'graphical' login now anyway.
Is there any simple (or even built-in) way to monitor various users' mailboxes from the gdm login screen? Having just broadbanded up for the first time, I want to be able to leave my box on permanently, but don't want to have to keep logging in just to see if I've mail waiting.
There seems to be a dearth of docs. on gdm and what can be done with it ...
If I have to cobble up a small, specific GTK app. and sit it in the corner, so be it.
