Howdy, I'm running rh9 fully up2date, and as of yesterday graphical logins (non-root) are very slow. It hangs on the gnome/metacity splash screen, on the 'panel' icon. This used to be no issue at all... once the splash screen goes away, the panel never appears. I did change up this system a bit lately: 1) added a software raid array, mounted at /vault for docs only, no system files 2) moved /home to a separate partition (did this in single user mode), remouned, no issues 3) installed latest openssl via up2date any suggestions? /var/log/messages shows nothing unusual. the system is responsive otherwise (webserver, mail server, etc). Logins through the console are no prob (well, I've only tried this as root). top shows that the system is almost totally idle.
