After the 2.4.18-27.8.0 kernel you might need to disable "dri" in the 
XF86Config file on some Linux boxes.  Certain screen savers seem to trigger
a keyboard/mouse/graphics lockup more than others.  You can ssh in and
reboot.  Try commenting out the line in /etc/X11/XF86Config and restart X.
