is there some program like proftpd that monitors ssh?Just curious, is that other "unix" box running linux? solaris? hpux? FreeBSD?
(ssh transiently *stalls* when connecting to a unix server -- drives me nuts -- winbox connected to same server at same time has no problems)
The delay you speak of typically means name resolution issues.
I'd use tcpdump or ethereal for looking deeper - iptraf can be helpful as well.
