Thanks, that solves part of the problem.  Now I can open a terminal, type in 
su -  then after I can run konqueror and it does not crash.

But, I would very much like to use the menu entry for it or to put a panel 
icon for it.  It may sound trivial to some, but I help out quite a few 
newbies over the phone and it comes in very handy.

Afterwards I looked at the differences in the menu entries between Psyche and 
Shrike and the only difference seems to be that the ownership is different.  
In Shrike the ownership (group and user) of the menu entry or panel icon is 
the regular user and in Psyche it is root.

Any further suggestions on how to fix it (do I chown a particular file?).
