Well, unfortunately nobody answered to my OpenOffice question. But after some times I found a OO 1.03 rpm for RH9 at ximian, and OO 1.1Rc4 could be installed in RH 9. So I could track down the OpenOffice crashes. Every time I used the Matrox G550 DH in dual head mode (xinerama), Open Office crashed as soon as I loaded a file (some file, there are files without any problem, too). When I reconfigured RH 9 to use one screen, I could work with OO and my files. This is true for OO 1.02 as delivered with RedHat, 1.03 as delivered by ximian and 1.1 from openoffice.org. Same is true, if I use the driver delivered my matrox (version 3 beta). Hardware is an IBM IntelliStation with dual P III, same with smp and with uni kernel. As a test I installed SuSE in parallel on the very same hardware, and it worked without a problem. I would prefer to use RH.
