It can happen, but is unlikely.

I don't consider myself qualified for remote-debugging of potential
hardware issues. Usually I feel the need to get access to the hardware
myself in order to check the cabling, BIOS settings, RAM chips, and so
on, and to be able to look at the results of tests myself.

A checksum error here already.

09:02 would be /dev/md2, a RAID device, hmmm... 
Whether this is due to the earlier errors, I don't know. Your
primary problem are block read errors upon booting from CD.
