Do you know how to tell windows 2000 and/or XP to use unencrypted passwords to communicate with Samba?i believe you need to open the local security policy admin tool then change the setting there. there are five choices (under xp) i forget which one it is you need, but i'm pretty sure you have to eliminate the ntlm choice completely.
I know that is better and easier to tell samba to encrypt passwords, but this is a problem that i have to solve before to update samba´s configuration file (smb.conf).
Please help me.
of course if you do it with local security policy tool you only change it for that machine. if you need a domain wide setting, then use the security snap-in by doing start>run>mmc then adding the security configuration and analysis snap in, and the security templates snap in. use them them to change the setting.
