Problem with removing an old kernel

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

I have two similar dual boot machines (Win and Linux) and both had installed the following kernels:

2.4.20-8 (installed during the fresh installation of RH9)
2.4.20-9 (upgraded with RHN)
2.4.20-20.9 (upgraded with RHN)

I decided to remove 2.4.20-8.
Through Webmin I removed the 2.4..20-8 kernel rpm and everything went very smooth on the first machine, Grub was updated, etc...

On the second machine system freezed, I had to power off the machine, at start-up the machine said that something went wrong on the filesystem, switched to maintenance mode, I had to unmount /dev/hdb2, to run e2fsck /dev/hdb2 to halt the machine and restart it.Grub menu was updated but 2.4.20-8 was still present in rpm's list and of course also connected files

Also command rpm -e kernel-2.4.20-8 didn't work!!!

How do I safely remove it (also from rpm's list)???

Tnx

Antonio
