RAID and Multiple OS Booting

The machine I'm currently using has 2 hard drives set up as a RAID-1
array /dev/md0. I'm using software RAID. The motherboard is a Gigabyte
GA-8IHXP2 (PCB version 3.0.)

I would like to dual- or multi-boot boot this machine with other OSes.
Can I just add another hard drive to a free IDE connector and install to
that without disturbing my RAID setup?

Alternatively, what if I want to stop using RAID so that I can use the
second of my already installed hard drives for another OS?

Thanks a lot
