thunderbird quote settings?

how does one changed the appearance of the quoted test when replying to 
email using thunderbird 0.1? or rather i should ask, how do i change it 
so that the quoted items is plain text, not blue? i tried 
tools>options>display and changed the color options to black on white 
background, but apparently that's for html messages only. i also set 
thunderbird to compose emails in plain text only, but that doesn't seem 
to help.

i checked the thunderbird tips and tricks site, but it only had code to 
set different colors for different levels of quotes.

i sent a test reply to another email address, and it appears that the 
blue text does get stripped out, but it would be nice to get rid of it 
in the reply window too, if anyone happens to know how.
