Last evening, I clicked a hyperlink on the New York Times Web site. I
was running mozilla. My machine immediately went to a blank, black
screen and came up to the POST screen in a couple of seconds. After
several reboots, including twice running fsck manually, with many bad
file messages, I got back into the land of the living.

Of note, I had just sent a postscript page to the printer, which was
beginning to print as I clicked the hyperlink.

The particulars:

RH9, stock from RH ISOs
2.4.20-19.9 kernel
mozilla-1.2.1-26, from Red Hat
Running NVIDIA Accelerated Graphics Driver for Linux-x86
   (version: 1.0-4349).
Kernel messages at time of crash:

Aug 10 21:47:14 iago RECV[3074]: lp: Receive_job: read from
localhost.localdomain- status 0 read 29 bytes '^B142
cfA073iago.optonline.net'
Aug 10 21:47:14 iago RECV[3074]: lp: Receive_job: read from
localhost.localdomain- status 0 read 31 bytes '^C13090
dfA073iago.optonline.net'

Yes, those control characters really are in the /var/log/messages

I suspect the graphics driver, but appreciate any thoughts.
