Did you double check the share on the Win2K system to make sure that they're not being offered up as read only?
Well, I can access them OK from by Windows box, and /also/ from nautilus as smb:// URLs - but this doesn't mount them.
I'm putting my 'Doze passwd in a file, pointing PASSWD_FILE at that (this must succeed otherwise access fails completely).
Then I'm doing:
mount -t smbfs -o rw,workgroup=$1,username=$2 $3 /mnt/smb/$2/$4
... in a sudo'd script.
