Minor nit-pick : unless something else is way wrong with the system, the
rescue image will mount the system read-write by default, under
/mnt/sysimage.  There's nothing extra that needs to be done for that.

But yes, the /initrd directory, though empty, is essential to booting
properly if you use an initrd with your kernel.
