  briefly, while you're running under your current kernel, download:

  1) www.nvidia.com, version 4363 of the linux driver
  2) www.minion.de, NVIDIA 2.5 kernel 4363 diff file

and put these somewhere safe.

  build a new 2.6.0-test1 kernel, reboot to command line and, with
the files above:

- sh NVIDIA...run --extract-only     # to extract the run file
- cd into that directory, and further into usr/src/nv
- apply the patch file from www.minion.de directly to that directory
- while still in that directory, "ln -s Makefile.kbuild Makefile"
- move back to the top level and "make install"

if that succeeds, you should verify that a new nvidia module
has been loaded with "lsmod".  if so, "startx".  

did i forget anything?
