List Distribution: Most of the following refers to KDE behavior. Is this an
appropriate message for this list? Please refer me elsewhere if not.

I'm new to this list, but I'm beginning to see why there are 100 messages to
this list each day. Most of my surprises are likely to have communicated
before my subscription. I'm adding them here in case I have a new one. I
have not been able to update yet - see below. This email is coming from XP.

Just overwrote my 7.2 with a virgin 9.0 install. I thought that 9.0 would
recognize more of my Dell DIM4550 HW than 7.2 did. It did find my M/B LAN,
but not the PCI CreativeLabs SB.

With a setup similar to 7.2, the KDE Desktop locks up with KPPP as a button
in the panel if the panel is set to auto hide. KPPP connects, but freezes
the panel applications like the browsers and email tools.

There is no CD icon on the desktop although it is in the fstab. The drive is
a CD-RW. I can mount it and read it. RH7.2 created an icon for this device.

There is no floppy icon for a mounted floppy - only an unmounted floppy
icon. You can't tell if the floppy is mounted.

The option to remember a particular KDE desktop setting is gone - it
remembers only the last setting. You always have to leave the desktop the
way you want it to open the next time.

The 9.0 documentation says that /boot may have to begin before the 1023rd
HDD cylinder. The install program will not write the boot loader into a
separate /boot partition. It will only install it into the MBR or the /
partition.

I am disappointed at best with my first RedHat 9.0 impression!

Regards, FrankK
