i'd just use xpdf, it's faster too.
but sometimes it happens that only acroread can handle some files :-(
sometimes it happens that only ... can handle proper other files
i need all three for being wapened for the daily situations
acroread, ggv, xpdf
not to forget: ps2*, pdf*, mpage, ...
