Nope. The kernel configuration has been revised a few times, so that's
not going to work. If you're not certain how to build a kernel, it could
be better to start with a 2.4 kernel since you need to upgrade some
other packages (modutils etc) for 2.5. There's a kernel-compiling howto
out there somewhere and a README in the tar.gz from kernel.org.
