8139too module is already built into the default kernel.... have you tried
running kudzu????? rtl8139 is the older version of the realtek chip set...
My system lists the D-Link card as (cat /proc/pci)

  Bus  0, device   9, function  0:
    Ethernet controller: D-Link System Inc RTL8139 Ethernet (rev 16).
      IRQ 10.
      Master Capable.  Latency=32.  Min Gnt=32.Max Lat=64.
      I/O at 0xe400 [0xe4ff].
      Non-prefetchable 32 bit memory at 0xdd102000 [0xdd1020ff].

Anyway try insmod 8139too, it should be able to detect your D-Link card...
else do a cat /proc/pci and see if there's an entry similar to above....
