not that i know of.  all that's necessary is that

1) you must have done a "make modules_install" so that there is a
   corresponding /lib/modules directory with that version number.

2) you can call the "initrd" file anything you want, as long as it
   matches the entry you put in /etc/grub.conf

p.s.  or you can just be a stud and move on up to the 2.5.7x kernels. :-)
which really don't require any extra processing from what you'd do with
the 2.4 kernels.
