Markku:

I'm close - I changed the device entry in /etc/sysconfig/ups to

   /dev/usb/hiddev2

And I added a username and password to /etc/upsd.users. Now, when I restart
/etc/rc.d/init.d/ups, I get:

Starting hidups: Network UPS Tools: HID UPS driver 0.11 (1.2.0)

Warning: This is an experimental driver.
Some features may not function correctly.

hiddev open /dev/usb/hiddev2: Permission denied [FAILED]

   Starting upsd: [ OK ]
Starting UPS monitor (master): [ OK ]

Also, I'm periodically getting broadcast messages from the system stating:

   UPS UPS@xxxxxxxxx is unavailable

I have a feeling that this broadcast message is due to the system not
properly reading /dev/usb/hiddev2.

Change the DEVICE entry in /etc/sysconfig/ups

The usename and password are missing. See the instructions in upsmon.conf.
