On one of the Ximian lists, someone mentioned this:

"gdmflexiserver --xnest"

I'll assume you must still install Xnest, but it's a quick way to get
the logon screen in a window.

I'd never even heard of this tool, which is a pretty cool way to switch
users without having to logout.
