Thank you both for this information on dmesg. I am trying to figure out a timeout message which occurs when cups is started. I had to install cups in order to print from Ximian desktop. Unlike some folks I made an image of my Red Hat Linux 9 partitions using Powerquest Drive Image before installing XD2 so if something goes wrong (although I'm having pretty good luck with Ximian 2 and Evo 1.4) I can revert to pure Red Hat.
