CF/SM reader compatibility

I'm getting ready to purchase a USB based Smart Media card reader (most SM
readers are Compact Flash and Smart Media, hence the subject line), as my
parallel port units don't seem to be recognized, and I haven't found a way
to get them recognized under RH9 (I have a Lexar Media model, and a Simple
Technologies model). Unfortunately, the HCL isn't as forthcoming on this
subject as I'd like, either.

In any event, I guess I have two questions:

1) Has anyone had any success in getting a parallel port flash reader
going under linux, and if so, would you be willing to help me out with
mine?

2) Assuming that the answer(s) to 1) is no (and no), can anyone recommend
a manufacturer/model for a USB CF/SM (SM is really the most important, and
maybe SD...secure digital...as a secondary concern) reader?

Thanks.
