3Ware rocks very solid products for SATA drives and Linux.

I've several systems using the Adaptec 2400 I20 IDE RAID controller and 
have had no problems installing or using it (since version 7.3). It 
looks and acts like the Adaptec I20 SCSI controllers (2100, etc.)
