Re: Build Advice Please

Hello List, I'm replying to my last reply to add info

I installed some developer rpms from the rh9 CDs. Now I'm up to choosing a
.config file to copy into the /lib/modules/2.4.20-6/build/ directory. My
kernel is the stock rh9. I have an Intel P4 with 512MB memory. Each of these
files has the entry "CONFIG_EXPERIMENTAL=y". Which should I choose?

Here are my choices:
 2:15PM[2070] find /lib/modules/2.4.20-6/build/configs/ -type f -iname
\*\.config\* -print
/lib/modules/2.4.20-6/build/configs/kernel-2.4.20-i686-bigmem.config
/kernel-2.4.20-athlon-smp.config /kernel-2.4.20-athlon.config
/kernel-2.4.20-i386-BOOT.config
/kernel-2.4.20-i386-smp.config /kernel-2.4.20-i386.config
/kernel-2.4.20-i586-smp.config
/kernel-2.4.20-i586.config /kernel-2.4.20-i686-smp.config
/kernel-2.4.20-i686.config
/kernel-2.4.20-x86_64-smp.config /kernel-2.4.20-x86_64.config

The build instructions from make are:

make[2]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-2.4.20-6'
**
** /lib/modules/2.4.20-6/build/.config is missing
** if this is a custom kernel then you need to run make config in
/lib/modules/2.4.20-6/build.
** if this is a distribution kernel then you need to copy the correct .config
file to /lib/modules/2.4.20-6/build.
** for RedHat kernels the .config file is one of the
/lib/modules/2.4.20-6/build/configs/*.config
**
