Sending mail outside of network w/o a mail server?

Hello.

I would like to mail the occasional status message to myself from another
network. This remote network is not running its own mail server.

Basically I just want to specify my ISP's (SMTP) server name as well as my
own name/password on a sendmail-like command line. Can someone point me
to a HOW-TO on how this can be done?

Thanks.
