On my machine it uses only 5020 kB ram and 3800 kB of that is because of xlib. so its really fast. But a few days ago xfce4 just came out into beta. they have some RH9 rpms on sourceforge (i think check google) and this thing 'seems' as full featured as gnome but is about as fast as wmaker. really good peice of software. Its worth a look.
