Odd permissions problem with Sendmail and Smartlist

I'm trying to migrate some Smartlist mailing lists from an old SPARC 
Ultra 2 to a new RH9 based server.

One annoying problem I've run into is getting Smartlist running.  I 
compiled and installed the latest Smartlist then moved the list over but 
I'm getting a strange problem with Sendmail being unable to run the 
"flist" program which is setuid to the "list" user id.

Here is a test message I've tried to run:

The alias in /etc/aliases looks like this:

gmylist: "|exec /home/list/.bin/flist mylist"

The flist program permissions are:

-r-sr-sr-x    5 list     gulik       20920 Jun  2 10:53 flist

When I try to run it manually I get:

[root@xxxxxxx .bin]# ./flist mylist
flist: Strange group or user id

Any attempt to E-mail the list returns with a bounce to postmaster with 
the following error:

Any ideas????  This is driving me nuts and it's one of the last things 
on the todo list that need to work before I can cut over....
