3) Understand that version numbers don't tell the whole story and tell my
"friends" at watchguard that those holes have been patched:

It looks like you are referring to the errata released on 5-28-2003:
https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2003-186.html

As long as you have upgraded to the errata package (either manually or via
up2date) you don't have that problem.
