Hi,
I'm having a strange problem, after 1 week(6 or 7 days) my RH9 server experience
a sudenly very high load.
The load raises to 14, then 20 and even 30.

When I run:
$ uptime
it looks like this:
10:11:25  up 6 days, 17:19,  2 users,  load average: 49.26, 44.17, 35.31

I reboot the server and then all works with no problems.

hmm, reboot is not the answer -

I know, reboot is never the answer. :-(

Can you see which processes are at the top in top?

slapd was forking to many process, like 15 process, but none of them used more than 5% of cpu.

Could be I/O wait, could be hung rpm, or other things...

the I/O wait was cero on top. I killed all daemons and then the load lowered. But as soon as I starter sendmail of openldap, the load raised again. Always, the CPU usage in top was under 10%

Does the system become sluggish as well?

Yes.

BTW, its a Pentium III 800Mhz 256MB
