"Wig out" means to go insane in a very public manner. This expression dates back to the 18th century when all "civilized" men wore wigs (they shaved their heads to keep lice away), and so to be seen in public without one's wig suggested you were crazy. I'm not sure this expression makes sense when applying it to software behavior -- we may tend to treat our programs as human-like, but I doubt anyone will consider shaving their heads for lice (although maybe that's what re-engineering is :-).
