Right. Killed magicdev beforehand; it messes up much more than cd
burning (fi dvd playback). I've got a speedy seagate 40gb disk on
/dev/hda and a pioneer dvdrom + plextor cdrw on /dev/hdc and hdd. When
copying directly from the dvdrom to a cd-r I have to limit the speed to
about 12x to avoid starvation, but the buffer underruns occur when
burning from hard disk to cd-r.

They don't occur under 2.5. So I guess there's something very wrong with
the 2.4 kernel's IDE stuff and/or the way RH9 interacts with it...
