By the way, if you can use the redhat source, I suggest you do as it
fixes all these problems for you, as well as applies various patches
(bug fixes, security updates etc). eg:

rpmbuild --rebuild httpd-2.0.40-11.3.src.rpm
then go to /usr/src/redhat/RPMS and install as usual from there.
