I'm using an Epson 610u (USB) scanner hooked up to
a 4-port hub. It cost me a bit over CAD $100 a couple of
years ago, but naturally hardward prices have dropped since
then. Mandrake configures it automatically, but in Red Hat,
you'd need to *manually edit* /etc/sane.d/epson.conf thus:
1) REMove the "scsi" line, and
2) *enable* the "/dev/usb/scanner0"

FWIW, I had entered this as a RFE in RH Bugzilla, but
I guess it was not a priority.
