You could always try a program call 'LinNeighborhood'. I use it both here at work and on my home network. It's much easier to configure than SMB and it allows you to mount and unmount the shares instantly. You will have to use google to search for it, (I can't remember where I got it, it's been a while). I think this will help you a bit.
