Hi,

the main prob with Realplayer is, that it is not using the sound
server from the Desktop env. (e.g. KDE).

And the desktop sound servers are using /dev/dsp as well, so this
device is busy while RP tries to play.

Under KDE there is one very nice solution I currently use:

"kickarts"

A nice Applet, en or disable arts with one click! Disable to use RP,
enable for the rest like xine, mplayer, totem, etc.

I don't know if there is an equivalent for gnome.
