Sorry... I should clarify: I mean a linux application, but which is
capable of scanning the (linux) system, _as well as_ files from
any other OS, usually attachments from email sent by 
Windows users. Hence the ability to also scan and detect
windows viruses such as MS Office macro viruses.

e.g. though I know that a VB script cannot run on my linux
system, if I can detect that there is such a virus of exploit
attached to an incoming mail, I would be able to advise
my correspondent that a suspicious or infected attachment
was received with his/her message.

I like the H+BDEV Antivirus, but I don't have the brains,
savvy, whatever to compile dazuko so that it will regularly
scan the system... so I'm looking at other alternatives.

Also, thanks to all who responded: this is a most 
informative thread,as I'm learning about some products
of which I was not aware heretofore.
