security updates

Is there a formal process someone would go about requesting patches from
redhat? For example, I noticed this morning that new patches are out
for samba, however nothing has been noted or released by redhat. I
understand that it often take a little time to go through testing and
QA, but I also noticed last time there was a security release by the
samba it took quite some time before the new versions/patches were
posted by redhat. On my really really critical boxes I compile my own
samba and just patch right away, but for other non critical boxes I
prefer to use RHN and let them patch that way.
