3d acceleration lost when ordinary users log out

I have a strange(?) problem. I've just installed RH9 on my laptop. It is a
compaq evo N1000v and the videocard is a radeon mobility 7500 32MB. When I
start up the laptop and log in as an ordinary user 3d acceleration works. If
I log out and log in as any ordinary user or root, 3d acceleration is
missing.
On the other hand, if I log in as root after a reboot, I've got 3d, if
I log out and log in as root again, I've still got 3d. If log out and log in
as an ordinary user I've got 3d but if the ordinary user log out, I do not
have 3d when I log in again.

I've also installed RH9 on a compaq evo N800v with the same videocard. It does
not happened there. Any suggestions?
