1. In Windows, if the cable is removed from the NIC, a popup warning message is displayed. The system is able to sense whether the ethernet connection is alive. Can linux have the same functionality? This could be a useful part of the gnome/kde DE.
If a popup appears in Linux asking me to do something like that appears i will shoot myself.
2. In Windows, if the dhcp client fails to receive a network configuration, the system re-broadcasts every 15 minutes to retry for a network connection. Linux doesn't do this. Can this be fixed?
Redhat uses the same ip if it fails to renew. So you're still up. Not sure about not retrying though.
